This is a lesson that can support the GCSE Buddhism course or it can be a general lesson to help contextualise the Dalai Lama as a spiritual and political leader.
The lesson covers:
Who is the Dalai Lama
The challenges the Dalai Lama faces
Tibetan independence
The challenges of self-immolation
The lesson takes 40-50 minutes to complete.
Trigger warning - this lesson does refer to the self-immolation of Buddhist monks in protest of Tibetan occupation.

This is part of a bundle of lessons and homeworks covering the GCSE AQA Buddhism Practices.
In the bundle there is a mixture of in class activities, comprehension, writing, fun tasks and homework worksheets. Class time is 55 minutes. You can modify the classes to suit your students.
Usually it is suggested you use the AQA Buddhism book to supplement these lessons but for this lesson you can do without it.

I teach them at speed in 50 minutes but I suggest taking the full 55-60 minutes if possible. Some lessons have slightly more content than others and this can be spread out according to your teaching schedule.
